?? “Luca vive”, rezan los graffitis en puerta, sus marcos y las paredes de esta casa de la calle Alsina construída en el año 1744, muy cerca de la famosa Plaza de Mayo y de la histórica Manzana de Las Luces.
Aquí vivió y murió el cantante de Sumo, Luca Prodan, una de las figuras más importantes y carismáticas del Rock Argentino. Fallecido debido a un paro cardíaco consecuencia de una cirrosis crónica, Luca supo darle un toque personal a la figura de frontman de una banda de rock.
Un tipo culto y de mundo –nació en Roma, vivió y estudió durante varios años en el Reino Unido– y de gusto variado para la música, fue influenciado por artistas en apariencia tan disímiles como Joy Division, John Lennon, Peter Hammil, Pink Floyd, Leonard Cohen o Ian Dury. Esto ayudaría a formar el original sonido de Sumo, partiendo de sus propias composiciones y una vez radicado en la Argentina, durante la década de los años 80. Si bien no desdeñó la música progresiva, se encontró muy cercano a la movida musical alternativa de Inglaterra de mediados a fines de los ´70 –como el punk y el post-punk–, y fue permeable a su vez al sonido jamaiquino del reggae.
Fue encontrado muerto en esta vivienda el 22 de diciembre de 1987. Sitio declarado de interés cultural por la Legislatura Porteña, en su frente hay una placa que dice: “Aquí vivió sus últimos días Luca George Prodan. Voz y líder de SUMO. Sonido y poesía del rock nacional. Declarado sitio de interés cultural por la Legislatura de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires”.

Here lived and died the singer of Sumo, Luca Prodan, one of the most important and charismatic figures of Argentine Rock. Died due to a cardiac arrest as a consequence of a chronic cirrhosis, Luca knew how to give a personal touch to the figure of the frontman of a rock band.
A cultured and worldly guy – he was born in Rome, lived and studied for several years in the UK – and with a varied taste in music, he was influenced by artists as apparently dissimilar as Joy Division, John Lennon, Peter Hammil, Pink Floyd, Leonard Cohen or Ian Dury. This would help shape the original sound of Sumo, starting with his own compositions and once he settled in Argentina during the 1980s. Although he did not disdain progressive music, he was very close to the alternative music scene in England in the mid to late 1970s – such as punk and post-punk – and was permeable to the Jamaican sound of reggae.
He was found dead in this house on 22 December 1987. Declared a site of cultural interest by the Legislatura Porteña, in front of it there is a plaque that reads: “Here lived his last days Luca George Prodan. Voice and leader of SUMO. Sound and poetry of national rock. Declared a site of cultural interest by the Goverment of the City of Buenos Aires”.
