?? One of Britain’s most famous shops, the Oxford Street headquarters was established in 1908 and the majestic building is still a sight to behold today.
On 15 July 1971, John Lennon and Yoko Ono took up residence in a section of the shop’s Book Department to sign copies of Yoko’s book Grapefruit, originally launched in 1964. In this case, it was the second edition, released in London in 1970 by Peter Owen Ltd.
The next day, the pair moved to another bookshop just down the block – also on Oxford Street, at 461 Oxford Street – as they signed copies at Claude Gill Bookshop. The cover photo of this point of interest is taken on the pavement where the once prestigious bookshop, now defunct, once stood.
